ORION TOWNSHIP, MN — Two people were killed Wednesday night when two vehicles collided on Highway 52 at County Road 7 Southeast in Olmsted County. The crash happened just before midnight in Orion Township, and the Minnesota State Patrol later identified both drivers.
Drivers identified
State patrol said 62-year-old Samuel A. Hernandez of Chicago was driving a Jeep Cherokee southbound on Highway 52. Devon Peri Williams, 40, of Preston, was driving a Ford Explorer northbound when the vehicles crashed.
Both drivers died in the collision, according to the patrol. No other injuries were mentioned in the update.
Emergency crews responded
Chatfield Fire, Chatfield Ambulance, Mayo Clinic Ambulance Service, Rochester Fire and the Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office all responded to the scene. Rochester Towing also assisted at the crash site.
The crash closed out a late-night response in the township north of Rochester. Authorities have not released further details about what led to the collision.
More details expected
The Minnesota State Patrol said more information is expected to be released Friday. At this point, investigators have not said whether weather, speed or other factors played a role.
The fatal crash added another deadly incident to a stretch of roadway that carries steady traffic through Olmsted County.
