KEOKUK COUNTY, IA — One person was killed and three others were injured in a crash early Sunday morning in southeast Iowa, according to the Iowa State Patrol. The wreck happened just after 1 a.m. on 170th Street in Keokuk County.
State patrol officials said an SUV heading west left the roadway, struck a power pole and rolled several times before coming to rest in a ditch.
Victim and injuries
The person killed in the crash was Caleb Eugene Schultz, 20, of New Sharon, Iowa, the Iowa State Patrol said. The agency identified the injured as Jenna Marie Follman, 19, of Sigourney, Maddasen Azelia Morris, 18, of Marion, and Tegon Anthony Fogle, 24, of Packwood.
Two of the injured were taken by ambulance to Mahaska Health in Oskaloosa. The third injured person was taken to Keokuk Health Center.
Seat belt finding
The crash report says no one in the vehicle was wearing a seat belt. Authorities have not said what caused the SUV to leave the road.
No additional details were being released at the time of the update.
Investigation remains open
The Iowa State Patrol is handling the investigation into the fatal crash. Officials have not announced any charges or cited any other contributing factors beyond the initial crash report.
