PRINCETON TOWNSHIP, MN — Four people were killed and one other person was seriously hurt in a three-vehicle crash Monday afternoon in Mille Lacs County. The Minnesota State Patrol said the wreck happened around 3 p.m. near 7702 Highway 95 in Princeton Township.
Investigators said a Honda SUV heading west crossed the center line and hit an eastbound Volkswagen sedan. A tire from one of the vehicles then struck a Nissan sedan traveling behind the Volkswagen.
What investigators said
The State Patrol identified the Honda driver as 80-year-old Marilyn Marshall of Princeton. Officials said she was not wearing a seat belt and died at the scene.
The Volkswagen was carrying four people, including driver Jeffrey Geisler, 60, and passengers Susan Geisler, 57, Steven Geisler, 16, and an 18-year-old woman. Jeffrey Geisler and Susan Geisler died at the scene, while Steven Geisler died later at a hospital.
Passenger airlifted for care
The 18-year-old passenger in the Volkswagen was taken by air ambulance to North Memorial Hospital with life-threatening injuries. A fundraiser identified her as Janessa Marie Geisler and said she lost her father, mother and younger brother in the crash.
The fundraiser also said the money would help with her recovery and other needs after the wreck.
Other driver unharmed
Authorities said the driver of the Nissan was not injured. The State Patrol continues to investigate the crash and has not released any additional details about what caused the Honda to cross into oncoming traffic.
The crash closed a stretch of Highway 95 in east central Minnesota as investigators responded to the scene.
