MAYFIELD, KY — Kentucky State Police is asking the public for help locating 80-year-old Ethelene Moss of Mayfield after a family member reported concern about not being able to reach her for several weeks.
According to KSP, the family member contacted Post 1 on Sept. 16 and said Moss had not been reached since Aug. 18. Troopers have since tried to locate her and are urging anyone with information to come forward.
Family member raised concern after weeks without contact
The missing-person request began when a relative called Kentucky State Police Post 1 and said the family had lost contact with Moss. That call came on Sept. 16, more than a month after she was last believed to have been reachable.
Authorities have not said why the family became concerned at that point, but the long gap in communication prompted a search effort. KSP is treating the case as an effort to confirm her whereabouts and check on her safety.
For families and law enforcement, cases like this often hinge on the last confirmed contact and any location where a person may have been seen afterward. In Moss’s case, that last known contact date is Aug. 18.
Troopers checked her last known Mayfield address
Troopers attempted to locate Moss at her last known residence on South Second Street in Mayfield, but KSP said they were not able to make contact there. The agency has not publicly said whether anyone answered the door or whether there were signs she had recently been at the home.
That address remains the main location tied to the search so far. KSP’s public request suggests investigators are still trying to determine whether Moss remains in the Mayfield area or has been staying elsewhere.
Family members believe she may be staying at a hotel in the area, though that has not been confirmed by police. Anyone who has seen her or knows where she may be should contact authorities.
What police say Moss looks like
Law enforcement described Moss as a Black woman who is about 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighs around 165 pounds. KSP also said she has black hair and brown eyes.
Those details are being circulated to help the public recognize her if she has been seen in the community, at a business, or at a local lodging site. Police are often dependent on small observations from residents, employees, or travelers in these cases.
Because troopers have not yet made contact, the identifying information is one of the main tools available to people who may have encountered her since mid-August.

KSP is asking anyone with information about Moss’s whereabouts to contact Post 1 by calling 270-856-3721. Tips can also be submitted online through Kentucky State Police channels.
Officials did not say whether there are any signs of foul play or whether any additional agencies are involved in the search. At this point, the focus is on locating Moss and confirming her condition and location.
Anyone who may have seen her in Mayfield or nearby since Aug. 18 is being urged to report what they know, even if the information seems minor.
