PRINCETON, MN — Four people were killed Monday afternoon in a three-vehicle crash in Princeton Township, according to the Minnesota State Patrol. The collision happened just before 3 p.m. on Highway 95 near 75th Avenue.
The patrol said an 80-year-old woman driving a Honda SUV westbound crossed the center line and struck a Volkswagen sedan headed the opposite direction. A tire from one of the vehicles then hit a Nissan sedan traveling behind the Volkswagen.
Crash Details
Investigators said there were four people in the Volkswagen, including two teenagers. The Honda and Nissan each had one occupant.
The patrol said Tuesday morning it could not yet identify the people who died or say which vehicles they were in because family members still had to be notified. More information was expected Tuesday afternoon, according to the crash report.
Church Plans Vigil
New Life Church in Princeton planned a prayer vigil Tuesday evening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. to honor the victims. Pastor Corey Kalinowski said the church wanted to offer a place for people to gather, find support and lean on one another.
Kalinowski said three of the victims were congregants at the church. He said they were deeply involved in the youth program and were an important part of the congregation.
Concerns About Highway 95
Residents told WCCO the stretch of Highway 95 where the crash happened is known for speeding and risky passing. They said the road has sections with 45 mph and 60 mph limits, but drivers often travel faster.
WCCO reviewed crash records for the highway segment and found five deadly crashes in the past 12 months. A local restaurant manager also said drivers move too fast and try to pass despite the lack of a shoulder.
