WORCESTER, MA — A freight train derailed in Worcester late Friday night, and the moment was recorded by a streaming camera operated by Railside Live.
CSX said five empty railcars came off the tracks around 8:30 p.m. near Franklin Street. No injuries were reported.
Five empty railcars left the tracks near Franklin Street
The derailment involved empty cars rather than loaded freight, according to CSX. The railroad said the cars came off the track in the vicinity of Franklin Street.
Officials did not immediately say what caused the incident. The derailment was being investigated.
Cranes were used to reset the railcars
After the derailment, cranes were brought in to lift the railcars back onto the tracks. The response focused on getting the equipment moved safely and restoring normal rail operations.
CSX did not report any damage injuries or broader public safety issue tied to the event.
Live video added a clear view of the derailment
Because the incident happened near a streaming rail camera, the derailment was captured as it unfolded. That footage provided a direct look at the train cars leaving the track late at night.
The company has not released a final explanation for why the cars derailed.
