Police found the man face-down in Merrill’s Quarry
Westford police said first responders found the man face-down in the water at Merrill’s Quarry off Tyngsboro Road.
He was taken to Lowell General Hospital, where police said he died from injuries linked to the fall and from being in the water for an extended period.
State and local investigators are reviewing what happened
Police said state and local authorities were investigating the circumstances surrounding the death. The man had not been publicly identified as of Saturday morning.
In a statement, police extended condolences to the man’s loved ones.
Authorities again caution that the quarry is private property
Westford police also warned that the quarry is dangerous and that entering it is illegal because the site is on private property.
