CHICAGO, IL — Four people were wounded in a mass shooting Saturday evening on Chicago’s South Side, and police said two of the victims were taken to hospitals in critical condition.
Investigators said the shooting happened when an unknown vehicle pulled up beside the group and several people inside opened fire.
Police say gunfire erupted on South Sangamon around 7:17 p.m.
The shooting happened in the 8500 block of South Sangamon in the Gresham neighborhood at about 7:17 p.m., according to Chicago police.
Police said the victims were on a sidewalk when the vehicle approached and the shots were fired. No description of the vehicle or the shooters was immediately released.
Two victims remained in critical condition after being rushed to hospitals
The victims were identified by age as a 43-year-old man, a 34-year-old man, a 32-year-old woman and a man whose age was not known, police said.
The 43-year-old man was shot in the leg and the unidentified man was shot in the abdomen. Both were transported to hospitals in critical condition.
Two others were hurt but declined medical attention at the scene
The 34-year-old man was shot in the right leg. The 32-year-old woman was grazed on the arm.
Police said both declined medical attention. No other information was immediately available as the investigation continued.

Detectives are still working to determine who was involved and what led to the shooting.
