ROCHESTER, MN — A 72-year-old woman from St. James died in a crash on Interstate 90 in Olmsted County east of Rochester shortly before 9 a.m. Monday. The Minnesota State Patrol identified her as Evelyn Marie Brye and said she was pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash involved a westbound SUV, an eastbound car and a semi just east of the Highway 52 interchange.
How the crash unfolded
According to the State Patrol crash report, the semi sideswiped the car. The car then crossed into westbound lanes of I-90 and went into the path of the SUV.
That chain of events led to the fatal collision. First responders were called to the scene before 9 a.m.
Who was involved
State Patrol identified the car driver as 46-year-old Alex Whiteis of Austin and his passenger as 18-year-old Reese Whiteis of Austin. Neither was hurt.
The truck driver was identified as 43-year-old Lewis Plaskey of Loyal, Wisconsin. Authorities said he also was not injured.
What investigators reported
The crash report says all four people were buckled up and alcohol was not a factor. The Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the fatal crash.
Brye’s death was reported as the 12th roadway fatality in Minnesota over a seven-day span.
