MCHENRY, IL — Police in McHenry said a man and a 1-year-old boy reported missing over the weekend have been found safe. The update came after authorities had asked the public to watch for the pair, who were believed to be in Wisconsin.
The child, Theo, was described by police as almost 2 years old. Investigators said he had been last seen with Todd Sabatini near Oak Drive and Illinois Route 20.
How the search unfolded
McHenry police first posted the alert on Facebook Saturday, urging residents to be on the lookout for the missing child and Sabatini. Photos of both were shared, and police noted Sabatini was clean-shaven and did not have facial hair.
Authorities said it was not clear whether the two were related. The initial concern was that they had left McHenry and may have been traveling in Wisconsin.
Later location updates
In an update Sunday, police said investigators had determined Greenfield, Wisconsin, was the pair’s last known location. A later update at 4:15 p.m. said information pointed to Sabatini and Theo being in Milwaukee in the previous few hours.
Police said they were actively searching and following up on leads in that area at the time of the update. Officials did not immediately say how the pair was located before confirming they were safe.
What police asked public
Before the safe update, McHenry police asked anyone with information to call the department at 815-363-2130. The alert was part of a broader effort to track the pair after they were last seen in the area of Oak Drive and Illinois Route 20.
The missing-person notice was later replaced by the confirmation that both had been found safe. Police did not provide additional details about where they were found or what happened during the search.
