Tango and the Addams
The Tango became an iconic symbol of Gomez and Morticia’s passionate and unconventional love in The Addams Family, beginning with its appearance as their favorite dance in the 1960s TV series. I am sure they were drawn to it’s violent roots in the French Apache Tango. It was further solidified in Addams Family Values (1993) with a memorable scene where Gomez teaches Fester the dance, and it was later adapted into a song for the Broadway musical, “The Addams Family Musical“.
Morticia’s past
Morticia Addams’ backstory varies significantly depending on the adaptation, but common elements include being descended from witches, having a gothic and eccentric personality from a young age, and marrying Gomez Addams, though the specifics of how they met often differ. A prominent version of her backstory is from Netflix’s Wednesday, which details her time at Nevermore Academy, her relationship with Gomez, and her psychic abilities. The concept of Morticia originated from cartoonist Charles Addams and was inspired by his wife, Barbara Jean Day, and actress Gloria Swanson.
