Presales are now open: you can grab the collection on Ravelry here or Gumroad here at the early bird price until October 26th. That’s the day the first secret design of Knitvent 2023 will be revealed. And that, the patterns will come thick and fast.
Don’t worry, you’re not expected to knit them as fast as I reveal them! But I know many folks do like to be prepared so they can cast on any design that takes their fancy as soon as it drops. So, I’m revealing the yarn info for the Knitvent designs early, so you can stash dive or shop with plenty of time.

This year, all the samples were knit with yarns from Aussie dyers. I know we have Knitvent knitters all over the world, and it can be a challenge for far away folks to get their hands on sample yarns. Shopping locally and stash diving is very encouraged! This information will let you know what to look for.
Once again I have worked with some really wonderful indie dyers, and I’m so excited to share their beautiful skeins with you. They’ve all done special updates just for us, which are live now. As always, these are small businesses who work in very small quantities, so if you love one or more of the sample yarns I’d recommend you snap up your skein(s) ASAP to avoid disappointment.
And now, here are the yarn, needle and notion requirements for all the secret Knitvent 2023 knitting patterns:

Choose your own adventure: fingering weight scraps or a yarn advent calendar!
This is the grand scrappy pattern of the season, and I did use scraps from my stash for the sample.
The pattern is designed to use a set of 24 x 20g minis in fingering weight yarn, but is very flexible.
Yarn
Sample used approximately 20g (80m/88yds) of 24 colours of fingering weight yarn or a total of 480g (1920m / 2112yds).
Held double with:
Gepard Kid Seta (70% Super kid mohair, 30% Shappe silk; 210m/230yds per 25g) x 9 balls (1890m / 2067yds)
Needles
4.5 mm (US 7), 120cm (50″) long circular needles (or size to obtain gauge)

Orange Blossom from Circus Tonic Handmade
Circus Tonic Handmade yarn has been a favourite of mine for years and has appeared in several Curious Handmade samples. Hannah’s colours are so rich and she has a way of capturing very specific “moments” from nature in her dye pots, like this bright shade from the centre of an orange blossom.
This Knitvent pattern was designed for two skeins of fingering weight yarn held together, which means DK weight can easily be substituted if that’s what you’ve got in your stash. But I love the subtle effect of one matte and one shimmer skein.

Stash divers: The sample knit from this yarn used approximately 150 g or 600m of two fingering weight yarns held double i.e. a total of 300g or 1200m.

Hot Spiced Cider Kit from Ash and Eve
Ash and Eve delightful dyer from the Sunshine coast with such a distinctive, cohesive colour sense. Susan’s themed collections are always so beautiful and a lot of fun besides!
This pattern has two sizes, and we did a sample for each in two different colourways. Kits for both are available on the Ash and Eve website, as well as single skeins of all the yarns.

Louie & Lola is another Curious Handmade regular! Karina dyes her lovely nature-inspired colourways in beautiful Tasmania, where they get to wear woolly things more often than most of Australia.
We knit two samples for this design, both in DK weight yarn, but in two different bases and colours.

Natural Fibre Arts, in Brisbane, is run by a mother and daughter team of dyers, and the love that they pour into their beautiful yarn is obvious.

Of course, there’s never any pressure to buy the sample yarns, I just love sharing the inspiration and showcasing my fellow small creative businesses. I know that many knitters may not be able to get the exact yarn I’ve used, but that’s totally okay.
The spirit of Knitvent is very much about discovery and using whatever yarn makes you happy.
That could be the sample yarns, but it’s just as likely to be something sitting in your stash or waiting for you on a local yarn shop’s shelf right now.
