Welcome back to our U-Pick Sewing series! I’m so excited to show you which sewing project won the vote so now I’m going to sew it up, write a pattern, and share it with you. I hope you all got a chance to vote.
I spent a lot of time trying to pick the projects to let you vote from this month. I wanted them to be useful, essential items that we can’t be without!
So which project do you think won?
Remember, I haven’t made this yet or written the tutorial. You’ll have to give me a few weeks to work on it before I share the tutorial or pattern here on my blog.
The sewing machine cover with pockets won by a landslide! I would love to sew all three projects (if I can find the time), but I’m thrilled to be sewing this one first because my darling Tula Pink Bernina still needs a cover. I have a bundle of still-uncut Curiouser and Curiouser that I will have to use for this project!
My Ideas for Sewing This Project
First I will have to check to see if our inspiration cover will fit my Tula Pink Bernina. It’s the 770, which is larger than most sewing machines.
I will definitely provide instructions for sewing one the same size as our inspiration cover. I’ll use that standard size cover with my Brother CS7000X.
Then if I need to (and I’m sure I will), I’ll sew a larger version for my Bernina and share with you how to make that too.
Here are my other thoughts about re-designing this sewing machine cover:
- Of course I will start by quilting cotton fabric together with flexible foam stabilizer. I absolutely love the sturdiness and look of it. You could use quilt batting insead if you wish.
- I love the zippered pocket on the long side of this cover, and the side pockets too. I think the inspiration cover has mesh pockets. Do you like sewing with mesh?
- The handles on the side are also a must-have. I think they look cute too.
- Someone emailed me asking if it could have an opening on top for the sewing machine handle. Since different brands of sewing machines have different sized handles, this is kind of a tricky request. How important is it to you?
Please let me know what you think in the comments below!
Watch for my unique version of this sewing machine cover in about a week. Then give me a week or so after that to draft the pattern and share it here on my blog. Make sure you are signed up for my free newsletter so you don’t miss it. You will be able to get the free printable PDF on that one day only! Of course you can also catch it later in my shop and I’ll also put it in the library of all the Optimized for Printing PDF Files.
