SHREWSBURY, MA — A man reported missing in Lake Quinsigamond was found dead Monday after an overnight search off Sunset Beach in Shrewsbury.
Police said officers were first called to the area around 3:30 p.m. Sunday after a report of a man possibly drowning. Initial responders were unable to locate him, and the search continued into the night.
Divers, drones and other responders searched into the night
The search effort grew quickly, with divers, drones and additional emergency personnel joining the response at the lake.
Shrewsbury police said the operation was called off for the night around 8:45 p.m. Sunday and resumed shortly after 8 a.m. Monday.
Fire chief says the body was located before 11 a.m. Monday
Shrewsbury Fire Chief Seth Colby said the individual was found shortly before 11:00 a.m. Monday. No further details were released at that time about how the person entered the water.
Witness Michael Cruz, who was at the scene, told WBZ-TV that rescuers appeared to be focusing on a life jacket in the lake as the emergency response unfolded.
Victim identified as Worcester man Yunio Ciromine Antonio Chaparro
Authorities identified the man Tuesday afternoon as 31-year-old Yunio Ciromine Antonio Chaparro of Worcester. Officials did not say how he ended up in the water.
No other information has been released as the investigation continues. Shrewsbury is about 39 miles west of Boston.
