CONCORD, NC — A man accused in the 2008 double killing at the Sun Drop Bottling Plant has been extradited from Washington state to face charges in Concord.
Police said 43-year-old Johnny Steven Talbert was arrested in Port Angeles, Washington, in May and brought back to North Carolina on Monday.
Police say two people were found shot inside the plant office
Concord police said officers responded to the Sun Drop Bottling Company around 10 p.m. on June 13, 2008, after a report of a shooting.
Inside the front office, they found Donna Barnhardt, 59, and Darrell Noles, 44, dead from gunshot wounds.
Talbert faces murder and robbery charges after years in the case
Talbert was charged with two counts of first-degree murder and one count of robbery with a firearm after his arrest in Washington.
Police said the original suspect stole money from the front office during the attack.
Chief says the arrest brings the families closer to justice
Concord Police Chief Jimmy Hughes said in a statement that the arrest will not erase the pain the families have carried for 18 years, but it gives the community some relief.
Talbert is being held in the Cabarrus County Jail without bail as the case moves forward.
