WADENA, MN — Authorities in Minnesota announced a reward of up to $25,000 in the long-running investigation into the 1987 disappearance of Carla Beth Anderson. The money is being offered by the nonprofit Spotlight on Crime as investigators continue to look for information about what happened to her.
Anderson was 23 when she vanished after being last seen at her Greenwood Apartments home on Nov. 13, 1987, after spending time with family. She had been scheduled to work the next day but never arrived, and she has not been seen or heard from since.
Investigation Details
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension says investigators found no sign of a break-in and no evidence of a struggle when they checked her apartment. The only items reported missing were her apartment keys and a Hardee’s jacket.
Investigators have pursued hundreds of leads and conducted hundreds of interviews over nearly 40 years, but no arrests have been made. Authorities continue to treat the case as a suspected homicide.
Family and Police Response
Wadena Police Chief Naomi Plautz said the department believes Anderson would not have simply chosen to disappear. She described the case as one that has affected both the family and the wider community for years.
Dan Anderson, Carla’s brother, thanked police and other agencies for keeping his sister’s case active. He said she was independent, close with her family, and a loyal friend who liked building her own life.

Plautz said investigators are open to any information that could help, even details people may not think are important. She said they want to hear from anyone who remembers what was happening that night, who Anderson was with, or who she may have been talking to.
