REGAL, MN — Two people died Wednesday afternoon after a crash involving an SUV and a semi in Regal, according to the Minnesota State Patrol. Investigators said the SUV entered an intersection and failed to yield to the oncoming semitractor.
The collision was reported around 3 p.m. at the intersection of Kandiyohi County Road 2 and Minnesota Highway 55.
How the crash happened
Crash report details say a 2022 Ford Escape was traveling north on County Road 2 while a 2004 International semitractor was heading west on Highway 55 when the vehicles collided. Stop signs are posted for northbound and southbound traffic on County Road 2 at that crossing.
The State Patrol said the SUV did not yield to the semi before the impact.
Who was involved
The people killed in the Ford Escape were the driver, Duane Henry Lieser, 88, and the passenger, Rosella Marie Lieser, 85, both of Belgrade. The semi driver was identified as Daniel Ray Goodall, 43, also of Belgrade, and officials said he was not hurt.
According to the report, both drivers were wearing seat belts, while the passenger in the SUV was not.
Investigators saw no alcohol factor
Alcohol is not suspected in the crash, and the road was dry when it happened. The State Patrol was assisted at the scene by Paynesville Fire and Police, Belgrade Police, the Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s Office, CentraCare Ambulance and the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
Authorities did not release any additional details Wednesday.
