ORION TOWNSHIP, MN — Two people were killed late Wednesday in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 52 at County Road 7 Southeast in Olmsted County. The Minnesota State Patrol said the collision happened just before midnight in Orion Township.
State Patrol later identified the drivers as 62-year-old Samuel A. Hernandez of Chicago and 40-year-old Devon Peri Williams of Preston. Both died in the crash.
How The Crash Happened
According to the State Patrol, Hernandez was driving a 2015 Jeep Cherokee south on Highway 52 when it collided with a northbound 2013 Ford Explorer driven by Williams.
The crash closed out Wednesday night with a deadly scene along the roadway in southeastern Minnesota. Officials did not immediately release additional details on what led to the impact.
Emergency Crews Responded
Several agencies were called to the scene after the crash. Chatfield Fire, Chatfield Ambulance, Mayo Clinic Ambulance Service, Rochester Fire and the Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office all responded.
Rochester Towing also assisted at the site. The response reflects the scale of the collision and the work needed to clear the roadway and help investigators.
More Details Expected Friday
The Minnesota State Patrol said more information is expected to be released Friday. That could include additional findings about the crash and the conditions surrounding it.
For now, investigators have confirmed the identities of both drivers and the fatal outcome. Highway 52 traffic in the area was affected as crews worked the scene overnight.
