EVANSVILLE, MN — A head-on crash in a road construction zone on Interstate 94 near Evansville left two people dead and two others injured, including one woman with life-threatening injuries. The Minnesota State Patrol said the wreck happened just before 4 p.m. Sunday, July 20, in Grant County.
Koleman John Lind, 24, of Jamestown, North Dakota, initially survived the crash but later died from his injuries, the patrol said Tuesday. Harold Ennulat, 73, of Woodbury, Minnesota, was killed at the scene.
How The Crash Unfolded
Three vehicles were involved in the collision where traffic was moving head-to-head through the work zone. Investigators said a Tesla Model Y driven by Ennulat and a Ford Fusion driven by Lind collided head-on.
A Toyota Crown Signia driven by Debra Lea Middleton, 63, of Mandan, North Dakota, then struck the other vehicles after the first impact, according to the patrol. Middleton was not injured.
Victims And Injuries
Kari Deann Ennulat, 65, of Woodbury, was taken to a hospital in St. Cloud with life-threatening injuries. The patrol said her condition remained serious after the crash.
Lind was a graduate assistant with the University of Jamestown women’s basketball program and coached the school’s junior varsity team. He also was working toward a master’s degree in leadership at the university.
Response And Traffic Impact
The Minnesota Department of Transportation said the work zone spans about 12 miles. Traffic in the area was slowed for roughly three hours after the crash.
Grant County sheriff’s deputies, Ashby Fire Department and Ambulance, North Memorial Emergency Medical Services, Evansville Fire Department and Lifelink air ambulance responded to the scene. A fundraising site has been set up to help with hospital bills and funeral expenses.
