MINNEAPOLIS, MN — At least two people were killed in separate crashes on Minnesota roads Wednesday, according to the Minnesota State Patrol. One deadly wreck happened in the afternoon east of Glencoe, and another was reported late at night south of Litchfield.
The first crash involved a pickup and a semi at an intersection on Highway 212. The second was a single-vehicle rollover that ended in a ditch on Highway 22.
Pickup and semi collide
The afternoon crash happened at the intersection of Highway 212 and Dairy Avenue east of Glencoe. The State Patrol says a pickup traveling north on Dairy Avenue struck a semi heading east on Highway 212.
Mahmut Lacin, 23, of Centerville, Ohio, was identified as the semi driver. Cynthia Eileen Schweiss, 63, was driving the pickup. Both drivers were taken to hospitals with injuries described as non-life-threatening.
An 85-year-old woman from Hutchinson, who was riding in the pickup, died in the crash. Her name was not immediately released, and the State Patrol said alcohol was not involved.
Late rollover turns deadly
The second fatal crash happened Wednesday night on Highway 22 south of Litchfield. Investigators say a northbound car left the road, rolled and came to rest in the ditch.
The State Patrol said a 39-year-old Litchfield woman was driving and a 40-year-old Hutchinson woman was riding with her. The report did not release their names or say how many people died, but it did indicate the fatality involved an unbuckled occupant.
Authorities said more information about that crash is expected on Friday.

The State Patrol responded to the first crash Wednesday afternoon and reached the second scene shortly before 10 p.m. Both investigations are still active.
For now, officials have confirmed at least two deaths from the day’s crashes. One victim has been identified as the Hutchinson woman in the pickup near Glencoe, while the rollover south of Litchfield remains under review.
