CHISAGO CITY, MN — Two women were hurt in a head-on crash Tuesday night in Chisago City, with one driver killed and the other taken from the scene with life-threatening injuries. The Minnesota State Patrol says the collision happened just after 8:30 p.m. at Highway 8 and 270th Street.
How the crash unfolded
According to the patrol, 75-year-old Rebecca Freedom of St. Croix Falls, Wisconsin, was driving east in a pickup truck when she crossed the center line. Her vehicle hit a westbound SUV driven by 65-year-old Jane Ogbonne Martins of Eagan, Minnesota.
Freedom was pronounced dead at the scene, while Martins was seriously hurt. The patrol said both women were wearing seat belts.
What investigators said
State troopers said alcohol was not involved in the crash. The report does not say what caused the pickup to cross the center line.
The collision remains under investigation, and no additional details were released Tuesday.
