POYNETTE, WI — A 58-year-old Winnebago man was arrested after Wisconsin State Patrol troopers say he was driving erratically on Interstate 39 and later stopped near Poynette. The arrest came after a caller reported the black GMC Yukon was crossing lanes and nearly hitting other vehicles and guardrails.
Report on the highway
Dispatch received the driving complaint on May 10 around 6 p.m. The report said the Yukon was heading southbound near milepost 106 in Marquette County and could not stay in its lane.
According to a State Patrol press release, the vehicle had Wisconsin plates and was involved in multiple near misses before troopers got involved. The complaint was treated as a public safety issue on the roadway.
Traffic stop at travel stop
A trooper later found the SUV in Columbia County and made the stop in the parking lot of the Loves Travel Stop off Exit 115 and County Highway CS, west of Poynette. The driver was identified as Robert Ramsey.
Authorities said Ramsey was on parole and had 10 prior OWI convictions at the time of the stop. He was arrested for operating while intoxicated, 11th offense.
Case remains open
The investigation is still ongoing, according to the release. No additional details about any charges, court dates, or the condition of the driver or other motorists were included in the report.
The case adds to a long history of impaired-driving offenses for Ramsey, but officials did not say whether any other citations were issued at the scene.
