History
Jump in the line has a little-known history before Harry Belafonte made it popular in 1961. It was written by Lord Kitchner in 1946. Then in 1952 Woody Herman and his Third Herd made a Mars Records recording of it. Re-imagined in 1955 as Labor Day Calypso, with Lord Invader for Folkways Label. Lord Flea then added his own twits to Jump in the Line and released it in 1958 with Capitol Records. It is this version that Harry Belafonte put his own spin on and is still popular today.
Jump in the Line
Since the 1960’s “Jump in the line” has been included in pop culture. It is a Disney princess feature song sung by Sebastian the crab in the Little Mermaid spin off, Ariel’s Beginning. But it is really best remembered in the ending scene of Beetlejuice. After looking for some period songs Catherine O’Hara recommended to Tim Burton to use some Harry Belafonte hits. This appealed to Mr. Burton and “Jump in the Line” was used in the closing scene of Beetlejuice the movie and musical.
Just Dance Video Game
Jump in the line was the first Harry Bleafonte song featured in the original Just dance series released in 2009 Wii video game. It features Captain Crimson and Plum dancing on the deck of the Pirate ship Plum the conqueror. Just dance “Jump in the Line” was so popular it was re-released in Just dance greatest hits and is popular as a flash mob wedding dance. Shake 4 count, jazz box 4 count, Repeat
Work rt & left 4 counts, Jazz box 4 count, repeat
Second section My girl:
2 count Plum Down, crimson up.

2 ct Plum Left crimson right

2 ct feet apart look left & right
Third section chasse and wipe arms:
Side, close, side tap making circles with arm to the right and left, count 1&2, 3&4:repeat
Salsa basic facing plum forward crimson back first
Plum Left foot forward, replace right foot back, close left foot, count 1&2, right foot Back, Replace left foot, right foot closes to left foot, count 3&4. Repeat.
Crimson right foot Back, Replace left foot, right foot closes to left foot, count 1&2. Plum Left foot forward, replace right foot back, close left foot, count 3&4Repeat.
Repeat section 1-3 two times
Third time add 16 count of shake arms in the air after salas
Third time of shake, add claps between shake and jazz box
