Mid-June 2024 saw the tenth running our perennial favourite trip “Scotland: The Birth of Geology”. Our group of 14 geology enthusiasts was almost exclusively from the USA, with the exception of one participant from Canada! We followed our usual itinerary, starting in Edinburgh (with the first stop at the world-famous Siccar Point), before heading north to Aviemore and then on up to Lairg, before heading west over to Ullapool, the Isle of Skye and the Ardnamurchan Peninsula, before returning south-east to Edinburgh.
Due to camera problems, we unfortunately only have limited photos from the first five days of the trip. However, as we have shared many photos of the wonderful geological sites in previous year’s blogs, we thought this would be an opportunity to spotlight some of the wildlife that can be seen on this trip. Here are some photos of some of the wonderful seascapes, sea mammals and birdlife that we witnessed on this trip, mainly on the boat trips to Loch Coruisk and to the islands of Staffa and Lunga. We have also included a short video of James talking about the wonderful geology of Loch Coruisk, taken by one of our guests on the trip, Linda Sternbach – thank you, Linda!
