Our Community Hub is designed to highlight business owners and professionals who are connected to the dance community, to bring a sense of connection and community engagement through the people we’ve come to know. Our spotlight this week is on Cameron David, who helps the two of us stay in shape.
Cameron David is the personal trainer for Wendy and myself. He also works with some of the other members of the Delta Dance community. Although the two of us have worked with a variety of personal trainers over the years, we have come to deeply appreciate Cam’s commitment to whole health. While other trainers would be interested in the workouts themselves, and of course the nutritional component of fitness, there would be little emphasis on what happens between sessions. They would say goodbye at the end of our training session, and we would see them a week later for the next one, with no real interest in what happened to us between those sessions. Cam, in contrast, is deeply invested in every aspect of fitness, checking in on everything from sleep to stress and work/life balance.
Cam lost his dad to a heart attack when he was in his teen years, a devastating experience that contributed to his passion for helping people get and stay fit.
He offers a variety of ways people can get in shape, from weekly in-person sessions to virtual training via Zoom to providing programs you can work on yourself, with occasional check-ins. These provide a lower-cost solution for those with limited budgets. He assists with nutritional plans as well, and can guide you through basic overview planning and tracking or with very specific meal plans.
He has attended numerous Delta Dance group classes, learning to dance his way through the same anxieties faced by many men learning to dance for the first time. Through that process, he has learned to connect to the feelings people have when doing anything for the first time, and the growth in self-confidence that comes with familiarity and competence. This applies to any physical activity, including weight training, yoga and flexibility exercises.
Cameron is adept with technology and utilizes his very own mobile app to help give you training programs and track your progress. What we really appreciate is his investment in areas of life that are often not talked about by personal trainers. He monitors daily sleep if you have sleep tracking technology (we use smart rings), monitors weight through your connected scale if you have one, and keeps track of your caloric intake and other nutritional metrics through apps such as My Fitness Pal.
His philosophy to training is guided by a “good, better, best” approach. We can’t always be rigid in our discipline. Life gets in the way. Cam understands this and prefers that people try to do something every day, even if the effort is not what was originally planned. When things happen that keep us from doing a full workout, we can still get in a mini workout. Even a few minutes are better than missing the session altogether.
If you would like to get connected to Cameron to learn more about his services, get in touch. We would love to make the introduction.
If you’re a business owner or professional, we would love to know more about what you do. The dance community is diverse and full of interesting people. The Delta Dance Community Hub is a way to help recognize some of the amazing knowledge, skill and experience that’s out there.
