BRANDENBURG, KY — Two people died and a third person was critically injured after a head-on crash in Meade County early Sunday, according to Kentucky State Police. Troopers said the collision happened on Old Mill Road, also known as KY 1638, near LG&E Road, and involved two vehicles.
Police say the crash occurred at 12:54 a.m. when a car driven by 26-year-old Isaac Jenkins of Brandenburg crossed the center line while traveling eastbound. Investigators said the vehicle entered the westbound lane for reasons that remain unknown and struck a Ford Fusion head on.
The driver and passenger in the Ford Fusion were pronounced dead at the scene, while Jenkins was flown to a Louisville hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Victims identified by state police and the county coroner
Kentucky State Police identified the people killed in the collision as 26-year-old Trenton Thomas of Brandenburg, who was driving the Ford Fusion, and 29-year-old Karlie Haycraft of Brandenburg, who was riding as a passenger.
The Meade County Coroner pronounced both of them dead at 1:13 a.m. Sunday. Authorities did not immediately release additional information about the victims beyond their names, ages and hometowns.
Jenkins, who police say was driving the other vehicle, survived the crash and was taken by air ambulance to the University of Louisville Hospital. Officials described his injuries as life-threatening.

Troopers said their preliminary investigation shows Jenkins was traveling eastbound before the vehicle drifted across the center line and into opposing traffic. Police have not said what may have caused the vehicle to cross into the westbound lane.

KY 7 Air Methods also responded and transported Jenkins for emergency treatment. The Meade County Coroner’s Office handled the death investigations at the scene.
The large response reflects the seriousness of the collision and the need for both medical treatment and scene management in the hours after the wreck. Officials have not released details about how long the road remained affected.
