WORCESTER, MA — An off-duty Worcester police officer died Tuesday in what investigators described as a domestic incident, and authorities are searching for a woman connected to the case.
Police said they were called to a home on Wildwood Avenue around 5:30 a.m. The Worcester Police Department and Worcester County District Attorney’s Office said the investigation remains active.
Victim identified as Worcester patrolman Kurt Solomon
Worcester Police Chief Paul Saucier said officers found a deceased man at the home, later identified as an off-duty Worcester police officer.
The Worcester Police Union identified the victim as 57-year-old Patrolman Kurt Solomon. Officials said he had 31 years with the department and left behind two adult sons.
Authorities seek Karen Solomon after she was last seen on foot
Police said they are searching for Karen Solomon, 58, who is presumed to be armed and dangerous. Authorities said she has dark brown hair and brown eyes and was last seen wearing pajama shorts and a tank top.
Investigators said she was last seen walking on foot toward Westcott Street. Anyone who sees her has been told not to approach and to contact police immediately.
Local, state and federal agencies joined the search
Worcester County District Attorney Joseph Early said local, state and federal agencies were involved in efforts to find her and determine what happened inside the home.
Officials also noted a large law enforcement presence near Coes Reservoir later Tuesday afternoon, less than a mile from Wildwood Avenue. It was not immediately clear whether that activity was tied to the search.
Crime scene activity continued at the Wildwood Avenue home
Sky5 footage earlier in the day showed investigators at a gray and white ranch-style house on Wildwood Avenue, where a white crime scene tent had been set up in the backyard.
The district attorney’s office said the search for Karen Solomon was set to resume Wednesday as the case remained under investigation.
