ISANTI COUNTY, MN — A 46-year-old Cambridge man died after a rear-end collision late Wednesday morning on Highway 95 near Vickers Street in Isanti County, according to the Minnesota State Patrol. A 63-year-old driver in the other vehicle was taken to Cambridge Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
How the crash happened
Troopers said a 2004 Ford Explorer struck the back of a 2019 Ram Promaster as the van turned north onto Vickers Street from eastbound Highway 95. The State Patrol reported the roadway was dry when the crash happened around 11:30 a.m.
Both vehicles had airbag deployment in the collision. The driver who died was identified as Joseph Daniel Decheine of Cambridge.
Seat belt use at issue
Authorities said Decheine was not wearing a seat belt when the crash occurred. He was taken to Cambridge Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Investigators have not said whether alcohol played a role, and that part of the case is still under review. The crash remains under investigation by the Minnesota State Patrol.
Multiple agencies responded
Emergency crews from the Isanti County Sheriff’s Office, Cambridge Police Department, Isanti Police Department and Allina all responded to the scene. The crash happened in Cambridge Township near a busy local intersection that serves nearby drivers.
Officials have not released any further details about what caused the rear-end collision beyond the information collected so far.
