REDWOOD FALLS, MN — A 64-year-old Redwood Falls man died Saturday evening in a rollover crash north of Belview after deputies say he fled from a traffic stop. Francis Albert Rohlik was pronounced dead at the scene at about 7:22 p.m. June 27 in Kintire Township, according to the Redwood County Sheriff’s Office and Minnesota State Patrol.
Officials said Rohlik was the only person in the vehicle. The crash happened on Redwood County Road 7 at 400th Street after the vehicle left the roadway and rolled over.
Brief Pursuit Before Crash
According to the sheriff’s office, law enforcement tried to stop Rohlik’s vehicle for traffic violations at about 7:19 p.m. near Belview. The driver sped away, and deputies followed for roughly three miles.
The pursuit ended when the vehicle lost control and rolled near the intersection with 400th Street. The sheriff’s office said deputies gave medical aid right away after the crash.
Seat Belt And Ejection
The Minnesota State Patrol reported that Rohlik was not wearing a seat belt. The sheriff’s office said he was ejected from the vehicle during the rollover.
He was pronounced dead at the scene despite the aid provided by deputies. No other injuries were reported.
Investigation Continues
Multiple agencies responded to the crash, including the Minnesota State Patrol, Yellow Medicine County Sheriff’s Office, Belview Fire Department, Belview First Responders, Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, CentraCare Ambulance, and North Memorial AirCare.
The Minnesota State Patrol is investigating the crash. Officials have not released any additional details about the traffic violations that led to the attempted stop.
