DETROIT LAKES, MN — The Minnesota State Patrol has identified the woman who died Thursday evening in a crash on Highway 87 in Evergreen Township. Debra Sue Carlson, 62, of Menahga was killed when her car collided with a semi-trailer truck near milepost 15 in Becker County.
The semi driver, James Otto Schwarzrock, 37, of Frazee, was not injured. The crash happened just before 10 p.m. on dry pavement.
How the crash happened
According to the State Patrol, the 2008 Peterbilt 388 semi was facing eastbound and was backing into a residential driveway on the north side of the highway. The westbound 2019 Subaru then drove underneath the semi-trailer.
Both drivers were wearing seat belts. Airbags deployed in the Subaru.
Emergency crews responded
Firefighters from Detroit Lakes, Wolf Lake and Frazee were called to the scene. Frazee police and Becker County deputies also responded.
The crash site was on Highway 87 in Evergreen Township, an area west of Detroit Lakes in northern Minnesota. Officials did not release any additional details about possible causes beyond the initial crash description.
