WHAT CHEER, IA — The Iowa State Patrol has identified the four people involved in a single-vehicle crash in rural Keokuk County that left the driver dead and three passengers hurt. The wreck happened just after 1 a.m. Sunday west of What Cheer.
Authorities said 20-year-old Caleb Eugine Schultz of New Sharon died at the scene. Three others were injured and taken by ambulance to local hospitals.
What Troopers Said Happened
According to law enforcement, a 2014 Cadillac SRX was traveling west near the 10000 block of 170th Street when it left the roadway. The vehicle struck a power pole, rolled several times, and came to rest in a ditch.
The crash was reported in a rural area west of What Cheer. The patrol did not give a reason the vehicle left the road.
Names Of Those Injured
The injured passengers were identified as 19-year-old Jenna Marie Follman of Sigourney, 24-year-old Tegon Anthony Fogle of Packwood, and 18-year-old Maddasen Azelia Morris. Follman and Fogle were transported by Keokuk County Ambulance to Mahaska Hospital.
Morris was taken by Keokuk County Ambulance to Keokuk County Health Center. Officials said none of the four people in the vehicle were wearing seatbelts.
Agencies At The Scene
The Iowa State Patrol said it was assisted at the scene by the Keokuk County Sheriff’s Office and the What Cheer Fire Department. No additional details about the condition of the injured passengers were provided.
The crash remains a deadly reminder of how quickly a rural roadway wreck can turn serious. Investigators have not released any further findings.
