PRINCETON, MN — Four people were killed, including a teenage boy, in a three-vehicle crash Monday afternoon on the east edge of Princeton. The Minnesota State Patrol says the collision happened just before 3 p.m. on Highway 95 in Mille Lacs County.
Officials say an SUV heading west crossed the center line and hit an eastbound car head-on. A second eastbound car was also hit after a tire came off one of the vehicles.
Victims named by patrol
The State Patrol identified the SUV driver as 80-year-old Marilyn Marshall of Princeton. She was killed in the crash, along with the driver of the car, 60-year-old Jeffrey Geisler of Princeton.
Two passengers in Geisler’s car also died. They were 16-year-old Steven Geisler, who died after being taken to North Memorial Hospital, and 57-year-old Susan Geisler, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
One passenger remains critical
A third passenger in the car, 18-year-old Janessa Geisler of Princeton, was taken to North Memorial Hospital with life-threatening injuries. The driver of the car that was struck by the loose tire was not hurt.
The crash report says alcohol was not involved. Investigators also said two of the people killed were not wearing seat belts: the SUV driver and the 57-year-old passenger in the car.
Crash investigation continues
The State Patrol has not said what caused the SUV to cross into oncoming traffic. The preliminary report lays out the sequence of impacts and the identities of those killed and injured, but does not give a final determination on why the wreck happened.
Highway 95 was the scene of the fatal collision while authorities worked the crash and gathered details for the report. No other injuries were reported in the vehicle hit by the flying tire.
