LAKEVILLE, MN — Authorities took a suspect into custody Wednesday night after an hours-long search that started in Lakeville and ended more than a mile away near the Lakeville-Farmington border. The search followed a Dakota County sheriff’s investigation that drew a large law enforcement response and prompted a shelter-in-place advisory for nearby residents.
Police began gathering at Country View Manufactured Home Park around 3 p.m. after executing a search warrant. Lakeville Police said they were helping the sheriff’s office look for a person wanted by that agency.
How the search unfolded
Officers spent several hours tracking the suspect through wooded areas and along North Creek, with the search area gradually tightening as evening approached. Residents in the 175th Street West and Finch Path area were told to stay inside, lock doors and close garage doors while police focused on the neighborhood.
The shelter-in-place came as officers worked through reports and tried to pinpoint where the suspect had moved. The search stretched from the original response area to a location just over a mile away.
Residents helped guide officers
Police were able to narrow the search after several residents called 911 with sightings. One person reported seeing the suspect near Frazer Path and Foliage Avenue, while another said the individual was crossing a pond between French Avenue, Folsom Path and Foliage Avenue.
Those reports gave officers updated locations and helped them close in on the suspect. Law enforcement later said the arrest happened near 175th Street West and French Avenue.
Investigation still underway
The Dakota County Sheriff’s Office is leading the case, and officials have not released the suspect’s identity or said what prompted the search warrant. No potential charges have been announced.
Lakeville police said they were assisted by the Dakota County Sheriff’s Office, Farmington Police, Apple Valley Police, Rosemount Police and the Minnesota State Air Patrol. Authorities said more information may be released later as the investigation continues.
