LEWISTON, MN — A Winona man was among at least six people killed in traffic crashes across Minnesota on Monday, according to law enforcement. The fatal wrecks were reported in Winona, Mille Lacs and Kittson counties.
The Winona County Sheriff’s Office identified the local victim as 43-year-old Zackary Wayne Ford. Authorities said his car hit the back of a dump truck that had been stopped at the direction of a traffic flagger in a construction zone.
Construction Zone Crash
The deadly collision happened shortly after 9 a.m. Monday on Winona County Road 29, between Interstate 90 and County Road 18, just south of Lewiston. The sheriff’s office said the dump truck was stopped when Ford’s vehicle struck it from behind.
Officials have not released additional details about what led to the crash. The incident remains one of the fatal wrecks that made Monday especially deadly on Minnesota roads.
Head-On Collision In Princeton
The Minnesota State Patrol said four people died in a head-on crash Monday afternoon on Highway 95 on the east edge of Princeton in Mille Lacs County. Investigators said an 80-year-old Princeton woman driving an SUV crossed the center line and hit another vehicle.
The SUV driver, the other driver and two passengers in the second vehicle were killed. Among the victims was a 16-year-old boy from Princeton, and an 18-year-old woman suffered life-threatening injuries.

The State Patrol also reported a fatal rollover Monday evening in Kittson County. A 68-year-old Karlstad man died after the pickup he was driving failed to take a curve on a rural road and rolled.
Authorities did not immediately release the man’s name. The three crashes together left at least six people dead in one day across the state.
