LAS VEGAS, NV — The Clark County Coroner’s Office has identified the three family members who died in a murder-suicide last week in Las Vegas. Investigators say 64-year-old Jimea Mahmoud and 69-year-old Ibrahim Jihar were shot and killed by their 40-year-old son, Abdelhafiz Abdelgader, before he died by suicide.
Police said the violence happened on Sept. 16 in the 1600 block of E. Rochelle Avenue, near Maryland Parkway and Flamingo Road. Dispatchers were already speaking with Abdelgader when the deadly gunfire occurred, and officers later found three people suffering from gunshot wounds inside the home.
What investigators say happened on Rochelle Avenue
Las Vegas police said Abdelgader called 911 and told dispatchers that he had shot his parents. While the call was still active, the dispatcher heard a gunshot, and then the line went silent. That sequence led officers to the residence, where they found the three victims with apparent gunshot wounds.
Detectives believe Abdelgader used a handgun in the shootings. Police have said the son shot his mother and father and then turned the weapon on himself while still connected to emergency services. The case remains under investigation, but authorities have not described any prior warning signs tied to this specific incident.
Coroner rules the parents’ deaths homicides and the son’s death a suicide
The coroner determined that Mahmoud and Jihar each died from multiple gunshot wounds. Their deaths were classified as homicides. Abdelgader died from self-inflicted gunshot wounds, and his death was ruled a suicide.
Those findings formally establish the nature of the deaths, while police continue to piece together the circumstances that led to the shooting. The coroner’s conclusions also match the sequence described by officers, who said the son was the person on the 911 call when the gunfire was heard.
Officers found the victims after the 911 call went dead
According to police, the emergency call itself became part of the timeline. Abdelgader had already told dispatchers what he had done when the dispatcher heard the shot and lost contact. That immediate silence prompted a response to the home, where officers found a scene consistent with the account given during the call.
Mahmoud and Jihar were pronounced dead at the scene. Abdelgader was taken to Sunrise Hospital, where he later died. Police later confirmed that the man who died at the hospital was the same person who had called 911 and admitted to the shootings.
Police have not identified a motive for the killings
Investigators have not said what led Abdelgader to shoot his parents. So far, police have only confirmed the identities of the dead, the location of the shooting, the weapon type and the basic sequence of events that unfolded during the emergency call.
Without a stated motive, the case is being treated as a murder-suicide based on the evidence gathered so far. Detectives are continuing to review the circumstances surrounding the deaths and how the confrontation inside the home escalated so quickly after the 911 call began.

The shooting happened in a residential area near two of Las Vegas’ major roadways, Maryland Parkway and Flamingo Road. That location places the scene in a busy part of the city, even though the violence itself occurred inside a home on E. Rochelle Avenue.
