BOSTON, MA — A man accused of holding a pregnant woman hostage in a car led police on a chase down Interstate 93 and crashed into eight other vehicles, Massachusetts State Police said Wednesday.
Troopers said the incident began around 7:20 a.m. with what they described as a suspected hostage-by-firearm situation. The pursuit ended after the driver stopped and tried to run away on foot.
Troopers found the car near Exit 9 before the pursuit turned into a crash scene
State police said troopers located the vehicle near Exit 9 northbound and moved in as the chase unfolded on the highway. A gun was recovered from the vehicle, according to police.
The victim was offered medical care after the suspect was taken into custody. Police did not immediately release details about her condition.
Suspect identified as Roxbury man scheduled for arraignment in Quincy District Court
Massachusetts State Police identified the suspect Wednesday evening as 31-year-old Dominic Hampton-Boyd of Roxbury. Police said he is expected to be arraigned on multiple charges in Quincy District Court.
Authorities did not say what the charges were. Further information about the sequence of events was not immediately available.
Heavy front-end damage and major delays were reported on the northbound highway
Over half a dozen police cruisers were seen responding on the northbound side of the interstate as the scene developed. A black SUV with heavy damage to the front was also visible at the location.
The police activity caused major traffic delays in the Boston area during the morning commute.
