MINNEAPOLIS, MN — A Plymouth couple is facing felony tax charges after investigators said they failed to file and pay more than $2 million in Minnesota taxes over several years. Criminal complaints filed Friday in Hennepin County accuse the husband of 32 felony counts and his wife of 12 counts tied to income and business taxes.
Officials say the alleged underpayments stretch from 2019 through 2024 and involve both personal returns and taxes connected to a garage door business in St. Louis Park.
Business Tax Filings
According to the complaints, the husband did not file corporate franchise tax returns or sales and use tax returns for his company during the period in question. The Minnesota Department of Revenue said it sent at least 25 filing demand notices to the business beginning in January 2021.
State records cited in the case also say the couple worked through a tax attorney, who acknowledged that the 2019, 2020 and 2021 income tax returns had not been filed.
Prior Tax History
Court documents say the husband had previously been convicted of tax crimes and was on probation from 2019 through 2021. Charges also say he never voluntarily filed individual income tax returns.
Investigators said two LLCs connected to him were dissolved by the Minnesota secretary of state in January 2025 and never filed tax returns with the state.
Spending and Property
The complaints allege the couple used the business as a personal bank account, including paying rent to the company while living at their Plymouth home. Investigators also say the business owned three vehicles used by the couple, including a Tesla Model Y listed for personal, family or household use.
Charges further say the wife stopped filing her own returns after marriage, did not report rental income from a Blaine home she owned, and later sold that property in July 2025 for $600,000. The couple began renting a $1.7 million home in Brentwood, Tennessee, last August.
