MINNEAPOLIS, MN — Severe thunderstorms swept through Minnesota Monday evening and into the night, triggering weather warnings across the northern and central parts of the state. Forecasters said another round of storms was expected Tuesday.
The National Weather Service posted a severe thunderstorm watch until 2 a.m. Tuesday for Chippewa, Lac Qui Parle and Swift counties in west-central Minnesota, along with Aitkin County in east-central Minnesota.
Warnings Across the State
Tornado warnings were issued Monday evening for parts of northwestern Minnesota, but those alerts have since expired. Severe thunderstorm warnings were also posted for several counties during the evening as the line of storms moved through.
In the Twin Cities, skies were expected to stay mostly cloudy late Monday before storms crossed the area overnight.
Tuesday Brings More Storms
High temperatures Tuesday were expected to reach the upper 80s before more storms arrive. The forecast called for additional thunderstorm chances across the region as the day went on.
Wednesday should bring scattered showers and isolated storms, with highs in the low 80s.
Midweek Warmup Ahead
Forecasters said the metro should dry out Thursday as humidity and heat build again. High temperatures could climb back into the low 90s by the weekend.
The pattern would leave Minnesota with a mix of storm chances early in the week, then warmer conditions returning later on.
