ELK RIVER, MN — An 18-year-old Zimmerman man was killed early Wednesday in a two-vehicle crash in Sherburne County. The wreck happened around 6 a.m. at Highway 169 and 221st Street Northwest in Elk River.
State Patrol investigators said a southbound 2012 Mitsubishi Lancer collided with a northbound 2007 Sterling dump truck that was in the left-turn lane preparing to turn west.
What investigators reported
The driver of the Lancer was identified as Brayden Michael Grunzke. Officials said he died at the scene.
The State Patrol said Grunzke was wearing a seat belt and that the car’s airbags deployed during the crash.
Dump truck driver unharmed
The dump truck driver, a 64-year-old man from Rockford, was not injured. Authorities did not immediately release any additional details about what led to the collision.
The crash remains under investigation by the Minnesota State Patrol.
Emergency crews on scene
The Sherburne County Sheriff’s Office, Elk River Police, Elk River Fire and Ambulance, and the Minnesota Department of Transportation all assisted at the scene.
Traffic in the area was affected while responders worked the crash site and investigators gathered information.
