LAKE DELTON, WI — The Wisconsin State Patrol is asking the public to help identify a vehicle linked to a fatal hit-and-run crash on I-90/94 near U.S. Highway 12 by Lake Delton. The crash happened Monday afternoon and left one driver dead after a chain reaction involving a Ford Explorer, a pickup truck and two semis.
How the crash unfolded
Investigators said the Ford Explorer and the pickup were both headed east when they collided around 1:30 p.m. The force of the impact pushed the pickup across the median and into the westbound lanes.
Once the truck crossed over, it struck two semi units. The pickup driver died from injuries suffered in the crash, and one semi driver had minor injuries.
Vehicle left the scene
State Patrol said the people inside the silver Ford Explorer left after the collision. They were later picked up by a dark-colored sedan that also drove away before first responders got to the scene.
Authorities have not identified the sedan and are asking anyone with information to come forward. The agency said the request is tied to the ongoing investigation into the fatal hit-and-run.
