SHELBY, IA — A 19-year-old Harlan man died Wednesday evening after his motorcycle collided with a sprayer in Shelby County, according to the Iowa State Patrol. The crash happened around 7:25 p.m. on County Road M16.
Authorities identified the rider as Jacob Buman, who was traveling northbound on a 2008 Kawasaki motorcycle.
How the crash unfolded
Investigators said Buman was approaching a northbound 2010 Apache 715 sprayer driven by 37-year-old Luke Applegate of Shelby. The sprayer began turning left into a driveway at 226 County Road M16 when the motorcycle hit the rear of the vehicle during the turn.
The motorcycle ended up in the west ditch, while the sprayer came to rest in the driveway.
Victim died at scene
Buman was pronounced dead at the scene after the crash. No other injuries were reported in the source information.
Heartland Funeral Home transported his body to the State Medical Examiner’s Office.
