PLOVER, WI — A Wisconsin Rapids woman has died after a two-vehicle crash in the Town of Plover earlier this spring. The Portage County Sheriff’s Office said 78-year-old Mary Hall died May 18 from injuries she suffered in the collision on State Highway 54.
Deputies were called to the intersection of State Highway 54 and County Highway F at 3:17 p.m. on May 15. Investigators said the crash involved two vehicles carrying people from Wisconsin Rapids.
How the crash unfolded
According to investigators, 81-year-old Alan Werth was driving east on Highway 54 when he began a left turn onto Pierce Avenue. The sheriff’s office said he failed to yield to traffic coming the other way.
The westbound vehicle was driven by 79-year-old Robert Hall. The two vehicles struck each other and ended up in the ditch northwest of the intersection.
Injuries and hospital care
Alan Werth and his 70-year-old passenger, Robin Werth, were not hurt in the crash. Robert Hall had minor injuries and was taken by Portage County Ambulance to Aspirus Riverview Hospital in Wisconsin Rapids.
Mary Hall, a passenger in Hall’s vehicle, was badly injured and first taken to Aspirus Hospital in Plover. She was then flown by MedEvac helicopter to Aspirus Wausau Hospital for further treatment.
Death ruled crash-related
The sheriff’s office said Mary Hall died at the hospital on May 18. Authorities said her death was the result of injuries she sustained in the crash three days earlier.
No additional information about citations or charges was included in the sheriff’s office update.
