DURHAM, NC — A man wanted in a Durham homicide case was taken into custody in North Dakota on April 9, according to the Durham County Sheriff’s Office. Investigators say Carlos Anuel Medina Robles is charged with first-degree murder in the November shooting death of 28-year-old Alberto Flores.
Robles has since been extradited to Durham and indicted by a Durham County grand jury. Authorities said the case began after Flores was found dead outside a business on Guess Road.
How the case developed
Detectives identified Robles as a suspect while investigating the November killing, then determined he had left North Carolina. The sheriff’s office said U.S. marshals later located and arrested him in Ward County, North Dakota.
The shooting happened on Nov. 2 in the 6100 block of Guess Road. Flores was 28 years old when he was found shot dead outside the business.
Agencies involved in arrest
The Durham County Sheriff’s Office said several federal agencies helped with the case. Those included the FBI, Homeland Security Investigations and the U.S. Marshals Service.
Officials did not release additional details about the arrest or the evidence that led investigators to Robles. The information provided focused on the extradition and the charge filed in the homicide case.
What happens next
With the indictment in place, the case now moves forward in Durham County. Court proceedings will determine the next steps for Robles as the murder charge is handled in local court.
The sheriff’s office has not announced any further updates on the investigation. ABC11 said it continues to follow crime and safety developments in Durham.
