DEWITT, IA — One person is dead after a car went off the road, hit a house and caught fire in DeWitt. The crash happened around 4 p.m. Wednesday, according to the Iowa State Patrol.
Investigators say the vehicle first ended up in a ditch before striking the home in southeast Iowa. No other injuries were reported.
Crash and Fire
The state patrol says both the car and the house caught fire after the impact. Officials did not say how extensive the damage was, but the blaze followed the collision at the residence.
The crash scene was in DeWitt, a city in Clinton County. Emergency crews responded after the vehicle left the roadway and hit the home.
Driver Identified
Authorities identified the driver as 46-year-old Trisha Brookins of Dubuque. They believe she had a medical event before the crash.
Brookins died at the scene, the state patrol said. No further details about her condition were released.

The Iowa State Patrol is handling the crash investigation. So far, officials have said the sequence began with the car going into a ditch, then continuing into the house.
