Rick Dees
Rick Dees, the creator of Disco Duck, was a radio DJ who was looking to create a fun, lighthearted song that would get people moving on the dance floor. He drew inspiration from the popular disco songs of the time, but added his own twist – the quacking sound effects. The result was a song that was both a tribute to disco and a send-up of its excesses.
Dees was a shrewd businessman who knew how to market his song. He created a persona, Disco Duck, a charismatic performer who wore a bright yellow costume and platform shoes. The persona added to the song’s appeal, making it a must-see act in clubs and on TV shows.
