The most American of the Latin American dances, the Jive is a lively and energetic dance with fast-paced music and a wide variety of figures that can be joined in almost any combination.
This program, about 90 minutes in total, covers the most common Bronze, Silver and Gold figures. We show you each figure in detail, with information about common mistakes people make so that you can avoid those and have your dancing looking polished and capable.
This video is available to all Delta Dance members.
Curriculum
This course totals roughly an hour and a half in length, but is divided into 11 different segments to make it easy for you to learn in a proven step-by-step process.
Stop and Go (length 11:43)
We’ve covered this figure in our Beginner Program, but revisit it here for convenience.
Whip and Whip Throwaway (length 8:35)
This figure has a rapid rotation to the right in the middle. We combine the Whip Throwaway, followed by the Whip, followed by the Walks and Underarm Turn for a fun combination.
Hip Bump (length 4:38)
An easy Bronze figure. We describe how to get the quick leg action to work efficiently.
The Windmill (length 6:34)
A super easy, yet visually appealing, figure.
Mooch Kicks (length 6:35)
A slightly challenging but exciting Bronze figure that requires attention to detail to make it look good.
American Spin (length 11:05)
A connecting figure, we show you the different hand holds and how to avoid missed connections.
Rolling Off The Arm (length 7:42)
A fairly easy Bronze figure that starts in right hand to left hand hold. We show you two possible foot patterns for the lead.
Simple Spin (length 3:37)
Another connecting step, this one puts a right turn in place of the Rock Step for the lady.
Toe Heel Swivels (length 7:11)
Perhaps the most “American” of all the Jive steps, this one involves swivels as you tap the toes and heels. It takes a bit of practice for people to master when they first learn it.
Chugging (length 8:53)
This gold figure, when danced poorly, can actually cause injuries so we take a bit of time to explain how to lead it properly so that you don’t put your partner at risk.
Chicken Walks (length 8:19)
We finish with another gold figure. It’s perhaps the hardest Jive step pattern to master, but it’s popular and lots of fun.
